I love how Chicago is a city that never fails to let me down when it comes to learning about talented up-and-comers. I feel like I should have known about Rick way earlier than this, but I guess the Philly phenom took a little time off to build up an entire vault of tracks, and now that the flood gates seem to be opening with the release of this project, I can only assume … It wasn’t until actively listening to this project that I realized why he was able to get these features: it’s because he’s GOOD.
For someone like Richrick, though, I had no clue how he had gotten both Yeat and Destroy Lonely on his latest album Registered, and while I hadn’t been acquainted with Rick previously, I knew I had to listen up. Maybe their manager has a connection, maybe it was a feature they had from years prior that they were sitting on, or maybe they go way back and it wasn’t anything out of the ordinary for them, but one way or another, they secured that collaboration. More often than not, there are certain artists who get a feature from some massive name or someone who is in the process of blowing up to unfathomable proportions, but I have no clue how they could have landed it. I attempted to try comparing him with any other artists I could think of in my head, as I typically do when I hear one for the first time. Both of these aspects were definitely the case when I listened to this track, as it was the first time I’d heard B Free.
